🌈 Black Queer Connect Groups - House Rules 🌈

Welcome to Black Queer Connect Groups! Help us reach our goal of building a supportive space, one where people feel respected and heard, please abide by these House Rules:

  1. No Shaming: This is not a space for shaming or judgment. We're here to uplift and support each other.
  2. Respect Boundaries: Always be mindful of others' limits and boundaries. Consent is essential, especially in our conversations.
  3. Counter Actions, Not People: If you disagree, focus on the action or idea, not on attacking the person. Let's keep it constructive.
  4. Containment: If you wish to discuss experiences that could be triggering to you, only do so after providing a trigger warning and if you have the adequate support systems in place to manage any potential aftereffects. It's essential to prioritize self-care and emotional well-being. Please note that BQC sessions are not a replacement for mental health services.
  5. Story Sensitivity: Every story is valid, but not all are yours to share. Respect the privacy and experiences of others, this includes not recording our sessions.
  6. Active Listening: Engage in active listening. It's not just about hearing; it's about understanding.
  7. Openness: Be open to different perspectives and experiences. Our diversity is our strength.
  8. Avoid Comparisons: Avoid comparing struggles or experiences. Each journey is unique.
  9. Respectful Disagreement: Disagree with respect and aim to share your thoughts constructively.
  10. Mute When Others Speak: Mute your microphone when someone else is speaking. It helps maintain a clear and respectful discussion.
  11. Use the Zoom Reactions function: Feel free to use reactions! It's a fantastic way to communicate non-verbally.
  12. Mindful Language: Use language that is inclusive and considerate of diverse identities. Avoid making assumptions and using terms that may be offensive or exclusionary.
  13. No Bullying or Hate Speech: Discriminatory behavior towards minority groups, including racism, colorism, misogyny, transphobia, ableism, or any other form of bigotry, will not be tolerated.
  14. Golden Rule: Treat others with the respect you want for yourself. Kindness goes a long way.
  15. Flexible Participation: Recognize that not everyone may be comfortable speaking verbally. Encourage participation through the chat, reactions, or alternative means.
  16. Content Warnings: If discussing potentially triggering topics, provide content warnings in advance to allow participants to prepare emotionally and decide if they want to be present. (If unsure please check in with the moderators)
  17. Respectful Pronoun Use: Always use the correct pronouns for individuals. If you're unsure, ask and use gender-neutral language when appropriate.
  18. Identity Acknowledgment: Acknowledge and respect each member's chosen name and pronouns. Avoid making assumptions about someone's identity.
