Fri, 26 Apr 2024 21:00:00 GMT → Fri, 26 Apr 2024 22:00:00 GMT (d=1 hours, 0 seconds)

In this resource, you are going to learn how to make a racing game. The player uses the mouse to navigate a boat to an island without bumping into obstacles.

What is Scratch:

Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations. It's designed especially for ages 6 to 15 but is used by people of all ages, including educators and parents. Scratch makes use of a simple block-based interface that serves as an introductory approach to fundamental programming concepts like loops, variables, conditional statements, and more.

Instead of typing code, users drag and combine blocks to build programs. This visual approach is intended to simplify the process, making it more accessible and less intimidating for beginners.

What students will learn:

  • Use operators to compare numbers in Scratch
  • Add code to detect when a sprite is touching a color in Scratch
  • Use a variable to record the time in Scratch

Class Details:

  • Duration: The class is 1-hour long
  • Platform: Live, online sessions on Zoom, where students get help and answers right away. We will send you Zoom link after your registration.
  • Requirements: A computer with internet access. No coding experience is needed. Kids will need to create free account on https://scratch.mit.edu/, or you can download the offline version of Scratch - https://scratch.mit.edu/download.
