Centre Stage: Drama Techniques for Writers - Creating Characters
Tue, 18 Jun 2024 18:00:00 GMT → Tue, 18 Jun 2024 20:00:00 GMT (d=2 hours, 0 seconds)
There are only a limited number of tickets for this live, online workshop.
Learn how to create characters your readers will love and develop believable and authentic motivations and story arcs. Join bestselling author and successful theatre producer and director Lotte R. James for a practical workshop to enhance your writing skills. The workshop will be live and online. Lotte will also give each student personalised feedback on a piece of writing. The workshop will be delivered live via Zoom.
During this two-hour interactive workshop, blending theatre practices and writing, students will learn new perspectives and techniques to enhance their character work. 'Centre Stage' focuses on the actor's perspective, so there will also be great tips on combatting writer's block and handling rejection.
As with the other workshops in this series, it is primarily aimed at those already on their writing journey, who are looking for tools to help them solidify their confidence and discipline, or simply a different way 'into' the writing process. Those who are just starting out and those who are well established, are more than welcome. Everyone will likely find methods which will benefit them. The workshop is relevant to all genres of writing.
This is the 2nd workshop in a series of four, which all focus on using theatre techniques to help writers improve their work. Each is a 'standalone' event or students can attend all four workshops for a comprehensive and holistic learning experience.
Please view our Eventbrite home page for details of the suite of workshops.
The key elements of the 'Centre Stage' workshop are:
- Learn about the actor's approach to character and how it can help writers strengthen their character work.
- Exploring the 'actor's toolkit' and understanding how this can help combat writer's block and add depth to story and arcs.
- Understanding how other artists handle rejection and understand how this can be applied by writers to build their own confidence.
