Feeling Awful: Writing Horror to Explore Emotion
Sat, 20 Apr 2024 16:00:00 GMT → Sat, 20 Apr 2024 18:00:00 GMT (d=2 hours, 0 seconds)
Horror is a visceral, emotional genre. Not only a place where we can explore our fears, some of the greatest works of horror fiction also deal with grief, anger, shame, despair, and other difficult emotions.
It's no surprise that many of us are drawn to watching, reading, and writing horror as a way to express and process these feelings.
About the workshop
In this workshop we’ll look at theories about emotion and horror, read extracts from works by authors past and present, and do some writing exercises to give form to our feelings.
There will be space to share your work, but this is completely optional, you are welcome to simply listen.
The workshop will be delivered over Zoom and will be recorded, everyone who signs up will receive a copy of the recording and a list of extracts.
The workshop will include a brief section on self care when writing about highly charged topics or trauma.
