Gathering Voices #FE - A teach meet series

Join us for the first of many Gathering Voice #FE English educators teach meets. Gathering Voices #FE aims to put teachers' voices and expertise at the heart of the conversation to lead the discussion on the Functional Skills, English qualification. The teach meet series will allow for both voices from those delivering FS and sharing their practice and thinking space for all.

This teach meet is aimed at teachers who work in a post-16 setting delivering functional skills English from Entry level through to Level 2 with delivery across all provisions; 14+ 16-19, Adult settings (including, in the community) and SEN.

The session aims to:

  • Provide supportive and succinct strategies and/or resources to use in the FS English classroom.
  • Encourage and creative fresh thinking delivery.
  • Build communities of English teachers delivering on functional skills.

Our speakers

Facilitated by Hollie Barnes-Lomax, Deputy Chair for the English Association’s Secondary and Further Education Committee. Main role as Teaching Learning and Quality Lead specialising in English as well as a Lecturer in English and Education. Driven to create space for all teachers to collaborate and passionate about motivating students through creativity in the FE English classroom.

Stephanie Gilford is Programme Manager of English Functional Skills at levels 1 and 2 at Birmingham Adult Education Service. Leads with kindness, passionate about resource development and focuses on developing creative ways to approach functional skills.

Nikki Milton is Assistant Head of Department for Adult and Apprenticeship English & Maths at Cambridge Regional College. Passionate teacher and resource creator to enhance teaching and learning across functional skills and GCSE courses.

Talaat Riaz is an experienced English teacher working in an FE institution. Talat has QTLS status and mentors trainee English teachers. He has a passion for creating memorable and engaging lessons for Functional Skills students in order for them to achieve exceptional results.
