Inclusive Practices for Teaching Mathematics

Join guest presenter, Dr Eugenie Kestle as she explores evidence-based strategies and inclusive practices in mathematics classrooms across both primary and secondary school contexts.

The session will cover:

  1. Evidence-based practice: What does it mean?
  2. Evidence-based strategies for mathematics
  3. Inclusive practice in the mathematics classroom
  4. Tier 2 and 3 interventions: How does this work?
  5. Questions (and sharing of experiences ?)

Across these topics, Dr Kestle will introduce the evidence hierarchy and provide an outline of evidence-based strategies in mathematics. She will share practical applications of how to differentiate instruction at Tier 1 to include all students, and explore how to incorporate interventions at Tier 2 and Tier 3.

The webinar will be recorded and all registered participants will have access to the recording for 14 days.

Guest Presenter

Dr Eugénie Kestel is Executive Director and co-founder of Academic Clinics for Exceptional Students (Inc.), an NFP Tier 3 intervention clinic. She is also actively involved in pre-service teacher education at Edith Cowan University and Curtin University as a Sessional Academic, and as a researcher and trained systematic reviewer at Monash University and Queensland University of Technology. She is the Co-chair of the International Congress for Mathematics Education (ICME) - Students with special learning needs.

Eugénie is a co-author of the report: Supporting students significantly behind in literacy and numeracy. A review of evidence-based approaches (Monash University/AERO, 2023). She has developed comprehensive MTSS training materials for interventionists, teachers, and pre-service teachers. Eugénie conducts professional development sessions and offers MTSS mathematics coaching to specialist support staff in primary and secondary schools. She has taught mathematics and literacy/English at both primary and secondary level at schools in Australia and overseas.
