Killing PowerPoint: A Webpage/Pageless Presentation Design Workshop

Sat, 27 Apr 2024 18:00:00 GMT → Sat, 27 Apr 2024 21:00:00 GMT (d=3 hours, 0 seconds)

Join Rachel Winchester, or Win for short, for an immersive hands-on workshop that will revolutionize the way you approach presentations. If you caught “Death to Slide Decks” last year, you’re in for a treat – this workshop kicks off with Version 2, an improved version of the webpage presentation, refined through Win’s extensive experiences at over a dozen events. The bulk of the event will be for hands-on designing. Each participant will get help with their type of presentation preparing for their specific context. We'll create our presentations in Google Docs utilizing their pageless format (other docs tools can be substituted). In the doc, we'll be creating our presentations, writing speaker notes so people can understand how to present a webpage, as well as development notes for people to build their webpage presentations with their chosen web development tool.

Follow-up consultations are included with purchase! After the workshop, you will be able to schedule a private call with Win to review your final presentation in your selected format.

Why it's time to Kill PowerPoint

Slide decks, slideshow, and PowerPoints are tied to a time when content was static and contained in finite pages. We navigated through content by moving from slide to slide, page to page; we had to turn the page or hit ‘next’. But now we have websites and digital media. Not only has content evolved drastically, but so has the way that we can interact with this content on a screen. Webpage presentations fit in with today’s visual culture. Today, we can present content in a way that matches how we naturally view and experience the world.

Topics Covered:

  1. Evolution of visual storytelling
  2. Rationale behind the switch to webpage presentations
  3. Practical insights on building webpage presentations using different web development tools, as well as other tools for other formats

Hands-On Creation:

Participants will begin crafting their presentations in a Google Doc using the pagelss format. In the Doc, during the workshop you will write up development notes for you to build your presentations using platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, Google Docs, or graphic design software such as Figma, Adobe, and Illustrator.
