Museum Social Media Online Seminar Series
Thu, 25 Apr 2024 15:00:00 GMT → Thu, 25 Apr 2024 16:00:00 GMT (d=1 hours, 0 seconds)
Join us on April 25, 2024 at 18:00 EEST / 17:00 CEST/ 16:00 BST / 11:00 EDT/ 8:00 PDT for one more online seminar by our special guest speaker, Mr. Adam Koszary.
Adam Koszary will talk on How Museum Could Conquer Social Media. He says: "Museums dream too small. They are filled with the histories, cultures and ghosts of human civilisation, and we use social media to tell people when the lift is out of order.
Drawing on my ten years of experience in social media, content and digital transformation in museums, libraries, galleries, corporations and as a consultant, I will explore how museums can utilise their people, collections and expertise to succeed on social media.
This talk will explore how people use social media and why they follow museums on social media using data from The Audience Agency, and how museums can use that data to craft an editorial strategy. I will also detail the three sets of skills and competencies required to create compelling content that is authentic, useful and popular, as well as what digital foundations a museum requires for social media to flourish.
Ultimately, this talk will discuss the reality of creating social media content in a museum, the common challenges museums face and some of the solutions to allow us to succeed."
Adam Koszary is a social media and content expert with over ten years experience in galleries, libraries, archives and museums as well as private corporations and consultancy. He helped redevelop The Museum of English Rural Life (as well as make it go viral on social media); did social media for Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford; headed editorial content and social media at Royal Academy of Arts; spent a weird six months doing social media for Tesla; was Head of Digital at The Audience Agency; and currently does content for Canon. He has an undergraduate degree in Ancient History from the University of Manchester, a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from University College London and is too scared to do a PhD.

We bring together researchers and museum professionals to discuss how museums and visitors use social media. Topics include museums in virtual spaces and how users connect online. Sessions are weekly, lasting one hour, focusing on idea exchange. Each session begins with a brief researcher presentation on museum-related social media studies, followed by a moderated discussion. Ideal for researchers, students, museum professionals, and social media managers. Sessions are in English and hosted online.
