Dr Minjung Lee takes us time travelling back to 16th century Korea to discover the beautiful costumes of the Royal Court seen in the Netflix series 'Kingdom', together with traditional Korean white mouring dress ... Dr Lee highlights the social hierarchies of the Joseon Dynasty through the variety of materials and styles of hats and headcoverings, the wearing of courtier rank badges - as well as the use of colour, precious golden thread and silks for the royal family.

Set in the Joseon Dynasty of medieval Korea, the popular TV series 'Kingdom' 'blends political thriller and zombie horror. Its story follows Lee Chang, the Crown Prince of Joseon, as he attempts to investigate the mysterious illness recently afflicting the King, only to find himself caught in the middle of a deadly epidemic ravaging the Kingdom of Joseon. While trying to save his Kingdom from the plague, he must also stop his political opponents from seizing the throne.'

Korean cinema - K-Cinema - has become hugely popular internationally through the award winning Parasite by director Bong Joon-ho, whose film was the first foreign language film to win best picture at the Academy Awards in 2020 - along with Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. So too has K-Drama (TV drama), including Squid Game and romcom dramas such as Business Proposal.
