Online: Introduction to Engraving
Mon, 22 Apr 2024 18:00:00 GMT → Mon, 22 Apr 2024 19:30:00 GMT (d=1 hours, 30 minutes, 0 seconds)
So, if you are a calligrapher thinking about expanding your business offering, or you're simply looking for a new hobby, this class will be the perfect introduction for you.
Maisie will be demonstrating how to work on a variety of items, with different surfaces and sharing the tips and tricks she's learnt along the way. As you watch her engrave, she will talk you through the tools, the process and her design strategies and give you advice about the best products to buy in order to make your engraving as easy and successful as possible.
When learning to engrave, some knowledge of calligraphy is useful, as you can then use these skills to change your lettering style, knit letters together and add illustrations. You will be shown how different drills, burrs and colour fills work, how to work at varying scales, on curved surfaces and on different types of materials from metal to glass.
This tutorial is 'Live streamed', so you will be able to interact with your tutor. You do not need an engraving machine to attend, as the idea of this session is for you to observe the techniques demonstrated and ask questions. If you have a machine, you are welcome to work along with Maisie, however, no individual tasks are set. You will receive our list of recommended products and suppliers with your workshop booking.
A recording of the workshop will be available to watch for a month, so if you are unable to attend in person, book your space to access the recording and be able to re-watch it again and again, at a time that is convenient for you.
What is Freehand Engraving?
Freehand engraving is created using a small handheld engraving machine, which you charge up before use, enabling you to do product personalisation almost anywhere, with no need for a power source and minimal noise and health and safety issues. This makes hand engraving perfect for product personalisation, gifting and live eventing, as the results are completely permanent.
