ROB Safety and Consent Violation Procedures
The ROB and its staff place a very strong weight on ensuring the attendees of our events are protected and that violators are removed from our space. In the event that a safety or consent violation has been observed, or reported to our staff, the following procedures will occur.
Please note: The ROB is an online convention, and as such, there will be limited amount of staff and time available to conduct exhaustive investigations. For this reason, this policy is written to protect the largest number of people at our events, to be able to conduct investigations quickly, and take any needed disciplinary measures immediately. Theses apply to the public, educators and administrators as well as any of the live participants.
Safety Violations
A safety violation is an action that endangers people online. These violations will be broken down into two categories: Minor and Major Infractions.
• Minor Infractions - Actions or negligence. These actions or negligence either could have caused harm or caused a minor amount of harm.
• Major Infraction - Actions or negligence that could have or did cause major harm to a person. Or an action or negligence that caused unintentional harm to a person.
If an attendee is found to have conducted a Minor safety infraction, they will receive a warning. A second minor infraction and they will be expelled from the ROB and not be permitted back in the event space. If an attendee is found to have conducted a single major infraction they will be expelled from the ROB and not permitted back in the event space with a permanent ban.
Examples of Minor Safety Infractions:
1. Failing to properly secure personal information on social media platforms.
2. Engaging in cyberbullying or online harassment.
3. Clicking on suspicious links or downloading unsafe files without proper precautions.
4. Not using strong passwords or regularly changing them.
5. Sharing personal information with unauthorised individuals or websites.
Examples of Major Safety Infractions
1. Engaging in cyberstalking or threatening behaviour online.
2. Sharing explicit or inappropriate content without consent.
3. Hacking or attempting to gain unauthorized access to someone's personal accounts or devices.
4. Spreading false information that could harm a person's reputation or safety.
5. Engaging in online scams or fraudulent activities.
It is important to prioritise online safety and take immediate action against these safety violations to protect the well-being and security of all attendees.
Consent Violations
Consent violations are indeed regarded as serious offenses and should not be taken lightly. Respect for personal boundaries and obtaining clear consent are crucial in promoting a safe and inclusive environment. If an individual is found to have violated consent at the ROB, appropriate actions will be taken to address the issue. This typically involves immediate expulsion from the convention and being denied re-entry into the event space. It's essential to remember that consent violations encompass various forms of interaction, including direct messages (DMs) without consent. Promoting a culture of consent and respect is essential in any community or social setting.
The decision made by the ROB staff is final and there will be no further investigation or appeal process. Once a determination has been made and any necessary disciplinary action has been taken, the matter will be considered resolved. It is important for all parties involved to cooperate fully with the investigation process and abide by the decisions made by the ROB staff.
