We give leading researchers an opportunity to share their work, and open the floor to you for a Q&A session to deepen the conversation.

Esme Hood: Humor, Prejudice, and Radicalisation
25th April 2024
10:00 - 12:30
In classrooms and workplaces across the country, we hear the same refrain: "It was just a joke, don't take it so seriously."
This seminar will focus on how humour and irony code white supremacist and patriarchal languages and ideologies. We will pay particular attention to the role that humour plays in online communities through the circulation of memes, to see how these frequently slip under the radar of social conscience and preventative measures for online radicalisation.
Perfect for anyone wanting to understand how the jokes they hear on a daily basis can be part of much bigger struggles for right and wrong.
