Screenwriting: How to write a scene
Sun, 07 Jul 2024 13:00:00 GMT → Sun, 07 Jul 2024 15:00:00 GMT (d=2 hours, 0 seconds)
Writing a scene doesn't have to be daunting. This two hour online workshop will take you through the entire process from initial idea to draft. You'll come away from it with the confidence and tools to write a scene for a feature film or short film. These lessons can also be applied to playwriting or any form of dramatic writing.
The workshop will cover:
- Purpose of a scene
- Character development
- Antagonism
- Scene structure
- Dramatic Action
- Dialogue
- Screenplay formatting
- Lots of practical exercises
- A Q&A section on any aspect of screenwriting
- Comfort breaks away from the screen
This session is for someone who has some idea of the basics of dramatic writing and wants practical exercises for scene writing. If you are new to dramatic writing I would recommend taking my 'Screenwriting Fundamentals' workshop before this one, as I will be building on concepts discussed in that workshop. Equally if you have written before this will be a great recap and some dedicated writing time. You don't have to have an idea for a scene in order to participate, part of the workshop will be story creation.
You will need:
- A laptop/tablet/mobile with video call capabilities.
- A means of writing - that can be pen and paper, any word processing software or screenwriting software.
- A willingness to engage with the exercises - though you won't be required to share your work if you don't want to.
- To be respectful of everyone in the workshop.
This workshop will take place online using a google meet video call which will open the call within your web browser. I want to make it as accessible as possible so please do let me know what I can do to accommodate your needs.
