Taking a Rights-based Approach to Primary Fiction
Wed, 02 Oct 2024 15:00:00 GMT → Wed, 02 Oct 2024 16:00:00 GMT (d=1 hours, 0 seconds)
Explore what is meant by taking a rights-based approach and discover how to adopt this approach when exploring fiction picture books at Early, First and Second levels. Find out about a resource which has been created by Scotdec and The Scottish Book Trust which supports teachers in taking this approach with 6 different picture books.
In this session, teachers will:
· reflect on where, why and why the UNCRC came about
· explore what we mean by taking a rights-based approach and relate this to the theory of windows, mirrors and doors
· delve in to picture books which explore different global contexts and explore how to take a rights-based approach to reading them with children in the classroom
Our courses are highly interactive, both to model the participatory global citizenship approach, and also so we can introduce activities and methodologies for use in the classroom. This course will make use of breakout rooms and simple digital participation tools (all necessary instructions will be given). It can be hard to participate fully on a phone or tablet, so we highly recommend you join the course on a desktop or laptop computer, with your microphone and video enabled.
If you have particular access needs, please contact us at [email protected] so we can work together to create as positive an experience for you as we can.
We have designed this course to be engaging, relevant and thought-provoking. Please join the course in a reasonably quiet place if possible, and do what you can to bring your full participation and focus to the session.
