TOAST | Fabric Eco-Printing with Rooted Botanics

Join Allie from Rooted Botanics for an eco-printing workshop, using flowers and leaves to decorate your chosen fabric. Allie will guide you through pre-treating your fabric for long-lasting prints, the flowers and leaves that work best for printing, and transferring your flowers and leaves permanently onto fabric for a textured material.

To take part:

  • Ensure you have a device with a webcam and microphone
  • Download the Zoom app in advance
  • Set up your Zoom account: https://zoom.us/signup.
  • Join Zoom Meeting via the link in your order confirmation email.
  • You can either have your video screen and microphone on or off - note that if it's on, people will be able to see and hear you.
  • TOAST may record video content and capture images from virtual workshops. By participating in the workshop, you consent to being filmed and/or photographed for such purpose. If you do not wish to appear, please do not turn on your camera.

Materials required:

-Natural fiber of your choice to use; this could be a pair of cotton socks, silk scarf or linen top

-Thick Dowel for rolling fabric onto

-String

-Dried, pressed flowers for eco-printing with. Dye flowers to use are marigold flowers & leaves, coreopsis flowers & leaves, cosmos, sagebrush leaves, black walnut leaves, garland daisies, eucalyptus leaves, alder leaves, cannabis leaves, oak leaves, maple leaves (flowers can be bought already pressed on etsy or you can buy the plants at your local garden store and press & dry them in between books)

-Pot & lid for steaming in. Ensure this is big enough for both dowel and fabric rolled on it to fit inside with the lid on.

-Aluminum acetate or sulfate for mordanting www.botanicalcolors.com www.maiwa.com

-Iron powder

-Soda Ash for scouring (optional)

-Materials can be purchased on www.botanicalcolors.com or www.maiwa.com

-Pot that won't be used again for food to scoure and mordant

-Food scale for measuring out materials

-Stirring stick

-Gloves

*it is best for students to mordant the day before the workshop so that it is submerged in pot when it comes time for class.
