Do you want your child to have the best start possible for secondary school?

This online transitions programme for children transitioning from 6th Class to 1st Year aims to support your child in preparing for secondary school. Across five one-hour sessions, on Wednesdays, your child will learn about time management, organisation, study and rules; making friends; and looking after our physical and mental health. The sessions are discussion-based and interactive - children will be encouraged to share their opinion and find their voice. This programme is based on the Belonging Plus+ schools programme.

This Transitions Programme is facilitated by psychologist Emma McEnaney.

Emma works as an Assistant Psychologist in the NHS supporting adults with autism and intellectual disabilities and is currently training as a Clinical Psychologist. This is her fourth year running this Transitions programme. Emma has run support and social groups for neurodiverse children and adolescents and has worked across adult mental health services in the NHS. Emma is passionate about giving children with ADHD the best start possible to their education and creating positive spaces for children to have healthy conversations about what matters to them. You can learn more about Emma on her LinkedIn page.

Parents from previous programmes shared that their children liked, "the discussion about something new and the uncertainty of secondary school," and, "hearing other people's experiences." 100% of parents rated that their children had found the programme helpful and that they had enjoyed it. The children said, "it made me feel happy", "it was helpful and interesting", and, "it was nice to know I wasn't the only one experiencing some situations".

This programme will take place online using the Teams platform. All children will be asked to have their camera on, and it is asked that a parent or guardian be nearby their child while they are in the sessions but allow them to share with the group when comfortable to do so. When you sign up for this programme, you agree to being contacted by the facilitator Emma and ADHD Ireland via email.

You will receive your Teams link in your confirmation email and in a further reminder email from Eventbrite.
