This training is for licensed mental health professionals only.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an increasingly prevalent mental health condition that may develop after an individual experiences a traumatic event. While many people have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lives, not everyone develops PTSD. Among those that do, it can be debilitating and impact behaviors, belief systems, social relationships, and lead to co-occuring conditions such as anxiety, depression, or substance abuse.
Trauma therapies are purposefully designed and delivered to resolve unprocessed emotional experiences. While the treatment goals may be similar, trauma therapies can vary drastically in their mechanism of delivery - allowing clinicians the flexibility to use the approach that best suits their client. It is critical for therapists to be aware of and understand the different trauma therapies that exist and how these therapies bring about change. In this training we will review evidenced-based therapies for post-traumatic stress as well as cutting-edge treatments being researched. The goal of this training is to expose clinicians to various types of trauma therapies and their common mechanisms for change, so they can be fully equipped to help their clients emotionally recover and heal.

- Identify current PTSD diagnostic criteria
- Describe common components of trauma psychotherapies
