This training will provide participants with the knowledge necessary to competently treat adult and teen survivors of sexual assault. We will focus on the universal principles inherent in all effective modalities of trauma treatment and how to apply them in clinical work with survivors. The goals of preventing retraumatization, strengthening agency, and empowering post-traumatic growth will be emphasized.
3 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.
Objectives:
Upon completion, course participants will be able to:
-verbalize an understanding of the foundational principles of effective, survivor-centered trauma treatment & identify ways to tailor treatment plans to individual survivors.
-assist survivors in navigating resources available to them through law enforcement, the healthcare system, and the New York State Office of Victims Services by providing basic information about and referrals to such.
-identify common treatment pitfalls that can be retraumatizing to survivors and what to do instead.
-identify common survivor internalized biases that can impede post-traumatic growth; help clients challenge these and form new survivor-centered narratives of meaning-making.
